Viaduct over ARGO Replacement
Airport Way South is a heavily traveled arterial, important to business, freight operations, the Port of Seattle, commuters, cyclists, and residents of Georgetown and the surrounding areas. The Airport Way South Viaduct, which carries more than 13,000 vehicles daily, was built in 1928 and has experienced increased stress over time.
The Seattle Department of Transportation’s replacement of the north and south approaches of the viaduct included seismic retrofitting and rehabilitation of its mainspan. S&A coordinated construction communications to the surrounding community and traveling public during the 14 months that the viaduct was closed and traffic was detoured.
