Stepherson & Associates Communications (S&A), a public involvement consulting firm, seeks a detail-oriented communicator with strong organizational and people skills. This position will support projects during their design and construction in the sectors of water, parks, energy, and local and regional transportation. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in communications, community outreach, public relations or related discipline required. We encourage anyone with a bilingual or multicultural background to apply.
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to understand and communicate complex technical information and concepts
- Experience implementing public engagement on infrastructure project(s) in the transportation, water, parks, energy, environmental, and/or land use sectors
- Experience working with public agencies, preferably the City of Seattle, King County, State of Washington, Sound Transit and/or local municipalities
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- A commitment to, and experience in, implementing equitable engagement to reach marginalized communities
- Comfort working on high-profile and sometimes controversial issues and/or projects
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Strong relationship-building and listening skills
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects simultaneously
- Background and/or academic coursework in Urban and Regional Planning, Journalism, Communications, English, Political Science, Environmental Studies, or related field
Job Responsibilities:
Help manage and grow client relationships
- Partner with clients to understand organizational and public engagement objectives
- Work with a team to develop and implement engagement activities
- Support online and in-person engagement activities, client meetings, presentations and stakeholder discussions
Support implementation of outreach/communications plans
- Create and edit collateral material
- Draft project updates and reports for internal and external audiences
- Manage website and social media content
- Track and respond to constituent correspondence and interactions
- Plan, coordinate and staff events, both online and in-person
- Set up and coordinate logistics for online public meetings
- Provide onsite, door-to-door outreach
- Coordinate and staff onsite community events, booths and table
- Coordinate project databases
