Project Description:

The voter-approved creation of the Seattle Park District provided funding to support new staffing and programming in Seattle’s 27 community centers. The Community Center Strategic Plan would lay the foundation for future operational and facility decision-making for the Seattle Parks and Recreation community center system. S&A was hired to engage community center users and the broader public to ensure the plan reflected the needs and desires of the community.

Results:

S&A worked with Seattle Parks and Recreation to raise awareness of the plan among community members and to gather input about their priorities to inform the plan’s development. This included coordinating and providing facilitation services for a workshop with teens and a citywide “mini-summit,” as well as reporting feedback collected at both events. Our team also prepared informational materials about the plan, promotional materials, and event display boards. Feedback gathered at the events informed a strategic plan that promoted social equity and responded to residents’ changing needs.
