Project description:
The City of Kirkland purchased a 5.75-mile portion of the Eastside Rail Corridor to realize a long-held vision: a welcoming, transportation-oriented facility, including a trail for pedestrians and bicyclists, to accompany a high-capacity transit system connecting Kirkland to the region. The Cross Kirkland Corridor Master Plan was a critical first step in the development of the corridor.
Results:
S&A conducted stakeholder interviews and developed a robust public involvement plan to guide the project’s introduction to the community and the collection of public input at key milestones. We planned, conducted, and reported on multiple interactive community engagement events. Drawing hundreds of participants, the events generated interest and excitement, established an understanding of the community’s vision for the corridor, and gathered feedback on the draft and preferred design alternatives. Our team also developed branding for the project; produced materials such as brochures, flyers, FAQs, mailers, and posters; managed the project’s website and social media pages; and maintained a contact database throughout the project. A successful public process culminated in an engaging common vision for the corridor’s future and the adoption of the Cross Kirkland Corridor Master Plan by Kirkland City Council.
