Project Description:
The Duwamish is Seattle’s only river—rich in history, native culture, tradition, and wildlife. In 2001, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency listed the Lower Duwamish Waterway as a Superfund site. The Lower Duwamish Waterway Group (LDWG) is a public-private partnership committed to advancing the EPA-led sediment cleanup of the Lower Duwamish Waterway. LDWG (pronounced “Ludwig”) includes The Boeing Company, the City of Seattle, King County, and the Port of Seattle. S&A was hired to support LDWG communications and outreach as the partnership continued to study the waterway and invest hundreds of millions in cleanup and source control.
Results:
S&A developed a communications and outreach strategy for LDWG to inform and engage people in the organization’s work. We have executed stakeholder interviews, developed values-based messaging, refreshed materials, and updated branding. In 2018, S&A designed and launched a new interactive and accessible website that is a key tool in educating the public about the group’s work. S&A also is instrumental in planning and executing LDWG’s annual boat tour of several miles of the Lower Duwamish River, a free event for the public that attracts more than 150 participants from around the city. S&A has managed event promotions, staffing, materials, content, interpreters, and vendors for the boat tour.
