Project description:
Northeast Redmond is home to the Monticello Creek Watershed, a drainage area that captures more than 393 million gallons of rain each year. The neighborhood is also one of the most rapidly growing parts of the city, which can impact water quality and wildlife habitat and result in increased flooding and erosion. The City of Redmond developed the Monticello Creek Watershed Restoration Plan to identify projects to manage stormwater in the neighborhood. These projects will restore the ecological health of the stream, bringing back larger populations of Coho salmon, cutthroat trout, and other fish, and preserve and restore open space surrounding streams and wetlands.
Results:
S&A led the public outreach effort for this project in its first phase, raising awareness of the plan among community members and providing opportunities for engagement. We developed and implemented a public involvement plan, coordinated an online open house and public meeting, conducted stakeholder interviews, and developed a mailer, communications materials, and web and email updates. As the project team finalized design, we continued to lead the public involvement effort to inform the community of the selected projects in their neighborhood.
