Project description:
Sound Transit is planning parking and access improvements for the Edmonds and Mukilteo Sounder stations, making it easier for more people to ride the Sounder train and enjoy a traffic-free commute. To guide those investments, Sound Transit wanted community feedback to identify the projects most likely to increase North Sounder ridership. S&A was hired to lead the communications and public outreach effort.
Results:
During the planning phase, S&A worked with Sound Transit to provide engagement opportunities that included a public meeting, community events, online open houses, presentations, and community surveys. We also worked to reach transit riders where they were, tabling at stations and conducting intercept surveys. Community input received through these methods informed the development of a final list of recommended projects to present to the Sound Transit board for approval. By the numbers, the project included:
- 2 online open houses with nearly 5,500 viewers
- 2 community priorities surveys with more than 1,300 respondents
- Mailers sent to more than 40,000 homes and businesses
- 38,000 social media impressions
- 7 Sounder station tabling events, interacting with over 300 people
