The Washington State Legislature commissioned a study to identify strategies that encourage more walk-on passengers to Washington State Ferries (WSF) Anacortes/San Juan Islands route, essential for connecting residents and visitors between the mainland and the San Juan, Orcas, Shaw, and Lopez islands.
Results:
S&A led community engagement efforts to understand the challenges and needs of various ferry users and ensure transparency in maximizing walk-on ridership. We developed a strategy to engage historically underserved riders, conducted an online survey to pinpoint barriers, and identified strategies to boost walk-on passenger ridership. We hosted stakeholder listening sessions, and insights gathered were summarized into a report for the Washington State Legislature, offering recommendations for future projects aimed at enhancing walk-on ridership and multimodal transportation in the region.
